Before we move on to the more exciting stuff let's take a moment to find out if you can become a qualified driving instructor in Leicester or your local area.
The legal stuff...
- You must be 21 or over
- Must have had a full UK driving licence for 3 or more years
- Have less than 6 points on your driving licence
- Have never been convicted of any non-motoring offences (this could affect the result of your registration)
for the less legal stuff...
- It's important as a driving instructor you're able to remain calm, be patient and sensitive towards your learners to help with their nerves and build their confidence.
- You will 'Be your own boss'
- Willing to work hard to maintain and develop your business

WHAT NEXT?
Once you've applied (and been accepted) on the ADI register, you can start preparing for the qualifying tests.
To qualify as an Approved Driving Instructor (AD) you must pass 3 qualifying tests within 2 years of passing the ADI Part 1 test.
You're only allowed 3 attempts at each of the ADI Part 2 and ADI Part 3 tests. You'll have to restart the process if you use up all your attempts or if it's been more than 2 years since you passed the ADI Part 1 test.
You have to wait until 2 years after you passed the ADI Part 1 test before you can start the process again.
There are 3 qualifying tests:
ADI Part 1 - The ADI Part 1 is a theory test. It's the first of 3 tests
ADI Part 2 - The ADI Part 2 test is a test of your driving ability.
ADI Part 3 - The ADI Part 3 test is a test of your ability to instruct pupils.
